I was six years old when this happened and I remember the paralytic fear that people carried for the few weeks that the crisis prevailed. The words on everyone's lips was the "They might use the H bomb".
Sorry Bounty, but Im pretty sure they would have pronounced it haitch.

I don't remember it at all (really!) but I checked with my mum and everybody still said aitch here.
