Title: Question about Big Brother
Post by: on July 09, 2006, 02:56:19 pm
I just happened to be flicking through the digital channels this morning and came across E4 or something, which was showing Big Brother live.  Thing is, they'd be talking about bugger all and the dialogue would cut out and all you could hear was planes flying over and birds singing.  Then the talking came back and then went again, this happened several times.  The cameras didn't stray from the 'action'; you could see the people talking but could hear a Chaffinch.  What's the point of that?

I dont get it either. I think they do it because they're swearing or something? Or because they're talking about stuff that needs to be edited out?

Big Brother is a load of rubbish they should edit the whole show so you hear and see birds instead of no brain losers trying to get famous.

I saw a few minutes of it once when I was channel hopping and it was all the F word... that was just the women!

Don't admit to watching that show.  It is social suicide to do so.

Apparently it is to do with legal issues - for example, if someone happens to so be much as singing a popular song it can infringe copyright. Of course it makes a mockery of the idea that this trash is genuinely live.

What if someone is doing a show on chavs, for example, and they are
playing some pop music - do they need copyright permission first?

In a world where people watch Big Brother live, anything is possible.

its on a 15 minute time-delay (so its not 'live' anyway) so they can cut the appropriate bits.

Merely watching it should be a crime.

If stuff's being edited out in real time it's not live.  Why is it called Big Brother Live?  Is it live or isn't it.  Obviously it takes a zillionth of a second for the signal to reach the TV but to edit it out they must be broadcasting with a considerable delay.  This just shows what a disingenuous bunch of twats the producers are!  w**kers to a man.  They should do a sixth form Big Brother - girls only and let me produce it.  Watch the ratings soar!!!

And also watch the complaints soar.

It is on a time delay because of swearing, copyright reasons and Endomal have to have some kind of control over what is happening. If there was swearing broadcast before 9pm could you imagine the out cry.

I was there 2 years ago on the launch night and that was on a five minute time delay.

I like Big Brother and I watch it. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I don't watch it, I don't like the idea of it but I understand why people do watch it and good luck to them if they enjoy it.

I hadn't been watching this series (or any of the last few) until a couple of nights ago when I was flicking through the channels and watched it for a few minutes.  I then found myself being pulled into it - it's strangely addictive.

Big Brother was such a good idea in principle but has become a monstrous programme - it really is the nadir of television.

Utter garbage!

I liked Shell too, her and Denny were great. I haven't watched is for about 2 series now. I kind of got fed up with it. The same happened with Footballers Wives.

I may try and download Prison Break and watch that as I heard it was good.

Wish the Crystal Maze was still on.

I thought Bad Girls started this week?

It hasn't been as good since Yvonne left, but now Pat Kerrigan has arrived they finally have a Top Dog deserving of the title again.

I think it's on Thursday. I thought Yvonne was good too, loved the episode where she gets trapped in the cellar thing.

I hope Bodybag will be returning, she's hilarious.

I always hated Fenner,  glad when he got what he deserved. Although it isn't the same without him I must admit.

Big Brother? No! Bad Girls? Yes. I haven't watched much of the last two series because i think the script writers lost the plot. However, the last two episodes have been very reasonable with the plot returning to half believeable stories.

Oldspice, do you know what has happened to Di and Arun? They seem to have just disappeared. However, I missed the Christmas special so I suppose they could have left during that.

I think Di got done for killing Fenner. Not sure about Arun.
