I don't know of any other chocolate shops in the north east apart from Thorntons.

I used to think Thorntons were the Bees' knees but then I delved a bit further and realised they are no better than Cadbury's or Nestle.  The best choc shop is Chocolate utopia in Nottingham.  No vege fat guaranteed.

I'm inclined to agree with Bounty on this, most chocolate in this
country is absolute crap. The only shops near me are Thorntons which
are over priced and not much better than the likes of Cadbury
chocolates.

The other better chocs are: Cote d'or and Lindt.

Has anyone been to Hotel de Chocolat, i think they do mail order but they have a shop in norwich.  They usually give out free samples and their stuff is very nice.

They have a shop in Nottingham.  Chocolate utopia are closed on Mondays and I needed some real chocs for my holiday so went there last week.  Have to say I'm impressed.  Rather expensive but very, very good chocolate.  I'd particularly recommend the Praline logs and the Intense coffee truffles.  Even those who hate coffee chocs might be impressed by these.  The other praline/giandujas are excuisite too.

Thorntons now guarantee not to use any hydrogenated vegetable oil in their chocs.

The Chocolate Society in Elizabeth Street, London, SW1 and Shepherd's Market, Mayfair, W1 are very nice.  See www.chocolate.co.uk
