I would probably say rice, but then I'm a big pasta fan too. Then of course it's what kind of rice - ordinary long-grain, basmati, arborio etc etc? I do prefer wholemeal spaghetti/pasta over white though.
-
Another tough choice. Pasta just about wins out, but as I love my curries and chillies I would miss rice if I had to give it up.
-
I prefer pasta, all those creamy sauces you can make with it - Lasagne too. But then again like smurfy says rice is great for curries and chilli. Although to be honest chilli and curry taste fine without rice.
-
I would say pasta over rice. I often eat curries with spaghetti as opposed to rice. But I do like the short grained rice for making rice pudding, couldn't make that with pasta
-
And you could have couscous or a jacket spud instead, whereas pasta sauce needs pasta!
-
I hate couscous.
-
pasta sauce needs pasta
Not necessarily.
-
What would you serve it with? (Serious question, not sarcasm!)
-
It depends upon the sauce. A creamy, cheesy sauce can be served over cauliflower / broccoli. Or you could slice potatoes and pour the sauce over then grill / bake. A tomato based sauce can be served with potato or rice as well as over vegetables. A traditional Maltese dish is baked rice, which is kind of like a bolognaise sauce mixed with rice and baked in the oven.
-
I think I would choose rice over pasta but its a very hard choice. Macaroni Cheese is lush but so it chicken korma and rice. Arrrgghh

I have actually used pasta sauces like that before!
-
I will choose rice everytime.
-
Rice with curry. Pasta with chessy sauces. Rice is also nice with a pepper/onion and chicken stir-fry with a few pineapple chunks thrown in. Gorgeous.

Just to go back to what you guys were discussing earlier - Without a
doubt i would pick pasta over rice everytime although baked potato is a
bit different. Think its the fact that i'm pretty good with pasta and
sauce but dislike rice a lot - not really sure why - just know i do.
Maybe the question should have been - what is your favourite form of starch?
-
Dry cleaning starch.
-

Somehow, "What is your favourite form of starch" doesn't sound a very appealing thread to me.
-
Crisps.

There's a gastro pub near where my parents live that has a 'greens and starches' section on their menu instead of vegetables and potatoes! I think it sounds revolting!

I love rich dark greens with mashed potatoes and gravy and something like a home-made meat pie or toad-in-the-hole.
-
Yummy.
