Title: World Cup Squad
Post by: smurfboy on May 09, 2006, 02:28:30 am

What do you think of the choices? I think leaving King out could be a mistake. But of course the big gamble is Walcott. For those of you who don't know him, Theo Walcott is a 17 year-old who Arsenal bought for £5m in January (could rise to £12m depending on future success) who has yet to start a Premiership match. I think including him is a huge gamble, but even more so as it means leaving Defoe out, especially with doubts over the fitness of Rooney and Owen. Can you really see Crouch and Walcott as a winning strike partnership?

I say Sven should have left Walcott at home and taken Defoe. If he had to drop someone for Walcott, it should have been Crouch.

I don't know anything about football but I do like when they take their shirts off to swap at the end.

I agree Smurfy. Leaving Ledley out could be a big mistake, I would play him over Campbell any day. I know Ledley was injured but he will be fit before the start of the world cup. Including Aaron Lennon in the squad is a very good inclusion. I rate him as a player and he is quick on the ball.

Walcott is a gamble but you never know, he could be the star of the world cup....

Should he have took Defoe instead of Crouch?

I think he is very brave taking Welcott, considering that apparently he hasn't even seen him play.  But who knows - it could pay off!

GC as a Chelsea fan what do you think of SWP being left out? It's ironic that if he'd stayed at Man City he'd probably be going.

To be honest he's never impressed me much.

I have not seen the squad details yet so I can't comment but i did hear that 17 year-old lad being interviewed on the radio and I think if he's half as good as Rooney he should be included in the squad.

The trouble with English football is it has crazes on players and thinks there is only one player on the pitch and if he's not there we're done for. It happened with Best, with Gasgoine, with Beckham, with Owen and now with Rooney.

Well if he had some Premiership experience we'd know! It says a lot for the state of our national team is a player isn't considered good enough yet to start league games but is included in the England squad ahead of experienced strikers!

Owen is still injured and I don't rate Peter Crouch very highly. I would have preferred Defoe or Bent in the squad.

Crouch is dining out on one good season at Southampton. People forget he used to average about three goals a season (as a Villa fan I know that all too well!) and he's hardly set the world on fire for Liverpool.

Whereas Defoe is proven! As is Bent

I only really watch the football when the World Cup comes around. At work we are allowed to go to the staff room and watch the England matches if we want to, instead of working.

Jimmy Bullard is a good striker, a hard worker and a loyal player so I am surprised Erkison is not showing an interest in him.

Is it loyalty that's made him leave Wigan for Fulham?

Well, he's been around a bit. He used to play for Peterborough United and God knows, we could do with him back there because currently PU play like a bunch of retired seaside donkeys.

Theo Walcott's girlfriend was on the news today, being persued by paps and reporters. The poor girl looked terrified.

She will either love it or hate it. They were saying on GMTV how much money she might make if she uses it to her advantage.

I thought that too. Makes Colleen look like a plate of over-cooked mashed potato.
