A woman of 63 is seven months pregnant and set to become the UK's oldest mother yet. The baby was conceived through fertility treatment. And would you believe this woman is a child psychologist?
I think this is hugely irresponsible. When this child is a teenager the mother will be 76. I know circumstances vary from person to person, but my grandmother had had both her hips replaced by that age and her health has deteriorated ever since. My mother and her sister sometimes struggle to cope with all the care my grandparents need and they are grown-up women who have raised families of their own. This child will be just 21 when its mother reaches the age my nan is now.
I know it's not exactly 'PC', but I believe the menopause happens for a reason.

Aren't there risks of abnormalities from a mother of such age?
Surely that depends on the age of the woman whose eggs were used not the 63 year old woman who is carrying the baby?
My brother in law has Down's syndrome. Although there is a Down's risk in every pregnancy it's definitely more common to have a Down's baby if you are aged over 40.

There are two ways of looking at this. My parents both died when I was still a child. They were not pensioners. Even though it was traumatic losing both parents, I would not have been born to anyone else given the choice. So, what I am saying is, if you have good parents, you value them for as long as you have them.
On the other hand, this woman is going to be an elderly woman raising a child and this is bound to be tiring and stressful for her. In addition, the child is likely to be quite young when both parents are dead or too elderly and infirm to fulfil the parenting role to its fullest extent. In addition, they are more than likely to miss out on the role of being grandparents.
Personally, I wouldn't dream of bringing a child into the world at the age of 63.

She is a wealthy child pyschiatrist so I don't think money is the issue.
That kid will need her analysing skills when she is too old!
