Hello Laura, I like the Mars Bar wrapper. It's a household name and the brand and the wrapper have almost become 'bigger' than the chocolate.
Bounty is also a favourite, and it always reminds me of the 1970's advert, "We came in search of Paradise". Especially the plain version.
If I can think of anything else I will let you know
- Andy
When I was little I was fascinated by the Turkish Delight advert, when you think he's going to slice the Princess in half but he's actually slicing a Turkish Delight - 'full of Eastern promise'.
Nowadays the ads don't really make we buy choc in the first place - no ad could make me buy a Bounty or anything with Coffee in it! - but a good ad coupled with a description of a new bar I like the sound of would probably make me remember to look for it when out shopping. Ads can also make me crave choc; e.g. I love Lindor anyway, but the 'chocolate heart' commercial makes me want one that very second!
Thanks for your posts so far! I am doing a project and have to invent a chocolate bar and its advertisements so if you could tell me what would make you buy a chocy bar and what fillings you would like to see in a bar that would really help me out. please keep posting!
Thank u laura xxxx
Great name treaclefairy!
I always seem to go for fairly plain, rich, chocolate-looking wrappers like the galaxy or Nestle 'Double Chocolate' range.
Not many chocolate adverts stick in my mind of late, but I remember the 'Flake' ones (they were excellent) and Turkish Delight, though I hate the bar!
I also used to love the 'Indianna Jones' theme of the Terry's chocolate orange! As for which bar, based purely on the name, I'd go for 'Heavenly', but the Mixbar does sound interesting.
Hi Laura, I agree with what Lou says about the chocolate. We have all said on here that we would like to see something really different in the shops. All bars that are out now all seem to be very much the same.
You could also try looking on the American Hershey website and see what they put in their bars and all the different names they come up with.
I like the sound of the Mixbar, it reminds me of the Fry's 5 centres bar which I'm sure a lot of people would like to see return in some form! I agree with loulou, steer clear of coffee flavour! Different fruity flavours would be nice.
Must go now, suddenly talking about chocolate has given me a craving to eat some!
"Get in the Mix" reminds me of Twix's slogan (From the US commericals) "It's all in the Mix"
'Taste the magic of the Mix'?
I like this one!
You know the blurb in catalogues or on the boxes of products, telling you how wonderful it is and how you must buy it? A copywriter writes that. Some dopey one probably got paid a fortune for coming up with 'Your happiness loves Cadbury' - not that I'm jealous
Hiya!! Its treacle fairy!!
Thanks for all your great ideas! i love them all if any more pop into yor head plz let me know! What colours on wrapers do you like? What fillings would u love 2 c in a mixbar? Do u prefer milk white or dark chocolate? thanks xxx
Cherry Cream fillings please! And Ginger cream fillings! Milk chocolate is mostly the best but plain chocolate on soft nougat is lush. (Lovells dark Chocolate covered Nougat!!! Mmmmmmmm).
Toffee and Mallow makes a good filling. My ideal bar would be a strip of chewy (but not hard) toffee with a thick Malteeser-like layer on top, covered with chewy mallow and milk chocolate.
Peanuts and hazelnuts are no go for me. And Brazils cos I'm allergic to them. Any kind of creamy, soft, fondant filling is good as long as it is not too sweet. Violet and Rose creams are a favourite so a bar with alternate cubes of this topped by those crunchy violet pieces would be bliss.
Good luck with your project.
Yeah I agree with that. There are no cherry cream fillings out there!
Wow thanks for your help! Thanks for wishing me luck oldspice , you never know u mite see my miXbar bar in a shop sometime in the future im very proud of my idea!! Im going to use as many fillings as i can so there is more variety. Do u think i should have the name of the fillings on each bar or let the buyer find out once they buy it? What kind of shops do u buy your chocolate from? x X x
Is that not a bit risky not to say what the fillings are?Just incase anyone has an allergy or a dislike to one particular flavour. I don't think I would like the surprise of biting into chocolate to find something like a coffee filling.
I buy my chocolate from woolworths and Asda. I like to get a whole load when I am shopping and hope they pass through the cashout without the cashier thinking I am greedy. If I go into a newsagent or a sweet shop to buy choc i tend to only buy 1 or 2 bars and never buy a big bar.
Be careful about putting too many fillings in. Don't forget, someone has to manufacture the bar. This was a problem for Cadbury with their Milk Tray Bar. It was a strong feature of their range for years, but when they came to replace the machinery that made them they ran into difficulties.
I buy my choc from whereever i am when i fancy some, although I have been dieting recently so I have tried to avoid it! Woolworths is best for variety but M&S and Thorntons win hands down for innovation.
Think you need to say what the fillings are. In Australia they have a bar called Snack. It has 6 different fillings. Its hard to describe how they make it but there is a picture on the cube of choc to show whats inside. See if you can find a picture of that. It might help.
I love chocolate but I hate being ripped off. Woolworths and Supermarkets are good for reasonabley priced bars and special offers. Corner shops seems to be dearer.
Good luck x

hey =)
i remember doing my Product Design last year - very similar to graphics, only covers wider areas, but equally as annoying and time consuming. in terms of what makes a good wrapper, bright, clearly recognisable, and words like 'improved' on a corner somewhere will always attract customers.
i was gonna add showing the brand name, but some companies like to 'play down' their brand name, sometimes it works just as well that way
hope that little utterance proved to be of use =)
Hiya!! Its treacle fairy!!

my GCSE product design brain says milk choc, as its the most popular, my ALevel business studies brain says market a whole range lol. Colours - dark background with light text, high contrast, always works best. my favourite is actually the turkish delight wrapper and also i like the white/silver ones

HI I AM DIBATING ON WETHER TO CHANGE MY PROJECT AND INSTEAD CREATE A SELECTION OF CHOCLATES IN A CHOCOLATE BOX SIMILAR TO CELEBRATIONS BUT INSTEAD EITHER USING THE MIXBAR IDEA AND HAVING UNUSUAL FILLING CHOCS OR THE HEAVENLY IDEA WOT DO U THINK? WRITE BAK XX
I know, but you need to think realistically, and that will come out in your work.
Mix Chox doesn't sound good. How about Chocolate Bonanza!
What about MerryMix?
I like MerryMix. Oldspice gets my vote.
As it is a buzz word at the moment how about
CELEBRITIES??
Fill it wit mouse traps
that ideas not been used alot
I like a ribbon on a box and I read that the colour red attracts the eye and stimulates the appetite so that might be helpful.
how about a round or oblong box for a change.
Thanks I don't think I will be using mousetraps tho! I am going to use red thanks for your info! Do TV adverts affect what you would purchase? treaclefairy xx
Yes, I'm, sure advertising can have the opposite effect.
I didn't mean to be rude, I just know that there are a lot of sub-conscious effects from advertising. It's surprising how people are influenced without realising it.
A thirty second advert at 8pm can cost £175,000. Believe me Kellogs or Unilever or whoever don't spend that kind of money for nothing!
But if you say you're not influenced, I'll accept that. There are always exceptions.
Carnation milk with tinned pineapple.
The strnage thing is, that as well as evaporated milk, the company also made..... Carnation Corn Plasters!!!!!!!
I kid you not. i remember them clearly.
Do faggots have brains??
No, but it does have all the crap out of body that you wouldnt normally want to eat.
Put the faggots back in the freezer now, just incase.
Hi people! HOW R YOU ALL?? i am still creating my chocolate box for my graphics GCSE but have failed to create an unusual shapes if you have any ideas they would be apreciated. hope every1 is well xx laura
How about a triangle box, like those chocolates years ago
Yeah... Biarritz! I'd forgotten about those!
How about an octagonal box - you could call them Choco L8!
And continue on the theme by having eight different centres! I'm on a roll now, look at me go...
