I was watching 'My Family' the other night and was surprised by how poor it has become. After a ropey first series it grew into a decent sitcom, but now it's gone right off the boil. There is some dopey Welsh bloke in it who has appeared from nowhere, obviously intended to replace Nick, and it just all seems tired.

So question is - would you rather see your favourite shows end on a high, or is anything better than nothing (e.g. the ropey final years of Friends)?

I suppose it's very difficult to find the right time to end. Fawlty Towers is a great example; there was never a bad episode made so it's remembered as a classic, yet on the other hand most fans wish there had been more than twelve episodes!

but if you look at "are you benning served" around the 1981 serves it went down hill badly!!! it was never teh seem!

There's definitely a niche for an erotic after 11pm sitcom

Scenario:  Parents go out and leave their 18 yr old daughter home alone, to invite round her hot l*sbian college friends for some 'homework'.

Pedant corner but it is relevant - the afore-mentioned show always irritated me because it was actually called 'dinnerladies' with a small d.  Pretentious or what?

I think it's in keeping with the low calibre of the entertainment.

The shows which go on and on and on tend to change the cast so much that they are barely recognisable as the show they used to be but that doesn't mean they have to get worse. ER is making its 13th season and is still a good show.

Nick was my favourite character in My Family; the show hasn't been so good since he left.

Nick was my favourite too, it was down hill after he left.

I think shows should end on a high so they are remembered fondly.

I personally think Friends ended on a high and the last couple of series were the funniest.

well it the only UK sitocm done in teh US sytle where there a tema of writer for it that why there at least over 70 epsoiodes now

Fawlty Towers and The Office ended on a high, possibly Seinfeld too.  Friends was average at its peak, and was terrible in the last 4 seasons.

The Simpsons is really poor now, and average episodes outnumber the good ones, which is a shame.

My family certainly has not been the same since nick left i watched an episode the other day and it was shocking

The friends ending was a disgrace i was expecting something really spectacular!

And i don't know if anyone watches Buffy or Angel but they ended really really badly!
