Title: Peperami
Post by: loulou on November 24, 2004, 11:56:52 pm

I used to be a big fan of Peperami. In fact any type of salami meat did it for me but lately after seeing a documentary about how donkeys find their way into salami I just can't face eating it. Anyway every time I go shopping I am so tempted to buy Peperami but as I get close to paying for it I change my mind. i wonder if there is some sort of help group i could join.

Surely, because Donkeys can open a salami packet, that is no reason to abstain?

I promise you I seen a documentary and it showed how donkey meat is used to make salami. Do you remember when the donkeys were being stolen from Blackpool beach to be eaten, well it was around that time the documentary was made.

Without meaning to be a preachinng veggie, how is eating donkey any worse than eating cow or pig?

The amount of fat in a peperami is scarey. It's something like over 50% iirc.

Meat eaters would probably say because pigs and cows are especially bred for eating (or milk).

I love the way this post is heading........

"Meat eaters would probably say because pigs and cows are especially bred for eating (or milk)."

Yes, and a pretty shameful thing intensive breeding is too.

However, if any vegetarian tells me it is wrong to eat meat, "meat is murder", etc , I have to ask why?

Just because you can't hear vegetables cry, how do you know they aren't in "pain"?

That lion on the African plain, sits there eyeing up the gazelle, thinking " I really should change my eating habits, what am I doing to those poor animals?"

If you tell me 'Ah, but they are less intelligent creatures who don't know any better", well you provide the meat-eater's answer.

Maybe animals were not put on the planet to be killed and eaten by humans, but until some higher authority tells me different...........

As I was brought up I ate beef, pork, chicken and lamb. I rode on Donkeys at Blackheath! I couldn't then eat them!

How do I know vegetables can't feel pain Paulham? Where do you think the phrase 'vegatitive state' comes from?

And you're right, lions don't know any better - and by saying that gives meat eaters their answer, you've basically descirbed them as 'less intelligent creatures...'

Not just meat eaters. Humans in general.

Why stay away from Chinese takeways? Am I missing something here?

There is a stereotypical urban myth that Chinese takeaways use dog meat, donkey meat etc, in their food.  The evidence for this is non-existent.

Aah, but when have you ever seen a family with a cat living next door to a takeaway...?

Thank god the evidence is non-existant. This whole post has been a bit distressing. Think I am too child like in my beliefs!

I was being somewhat facetious - I didn't actually expect you to survey local takeaways!
