Woolworths have a good selection of Cote d'or at the moment.
-
why oh why do we not have a woolworths here

-
They closed loads of branches in the eighties, even some that were profitable. What they did was work out profit in relation to floor space - therefore the two huge stores they had in Birmingham were both closed (whereas a less rigid system would have closed just one). We've had Woolies back in the city centre for over ten years now, but on nowhere near the same scale.
-
We used to have a really massive one called 'Woolco' that sold furniture, washing machines etc etc as well as all the usual stuff. Sadly it closed back in the 80's.
-
They tried that again with Big W - fantastic stores. Sadly they have gone too

Woolworth went down hill in the late 70s when they stopped looking like a USSR utility store and started to compete with trendier stores. They lost track of their market, diversified too much and ended up selling a pile of junk.
I remember buying biscuits loose in Woolies and selecting make up and stationery from little trays.
