When you go to the fish and chip shop what do you buy? I always get fishcake, chips and curry as not a big fish fan. My local chip shop sells haggis. Anyone ever tried it and does your chip shop sell anything different ?.
-
I always buy sausage and chips or burger and chips sometimes mushy pea's!!
Our chip shop does not sell haggis but it does sell battered mars bars!!
-
Have you ever had the mars bar? I remember years ago seeing battered creme eggs in a chip shop but I wasn't brave enough to have one.
-
No never tried one as i dont like mars bars and even if i did im not sure i would like to try it!!
-
Chips, scallop and mushy peas
-
-
Haggis adn chips for me
-
623 what does haggis taste like?
-
Lovly! yuo shuold try some!
the other scottish fish N chip specil is a MARS bar suppper! also quite nice
-
I think haggis contains barley and I've never been keen on it.
-
no barley in it!
-
Really? Well I wonder why I always thought there was. Do you know what is in it? Isn't it a sheeps stomach?
-
problay and brains. liver, adn some otehr stuff!
-
Oh no 623 that sounds bad.
-
It sounds offal.
-
-
It sounds offal.
No it doen'st have any of that!
-
I like skate or cod and chips.
-
I order chips, pickled onion and mayonnaise. Occasionally I have chips with curry sauce. Our chip shop doesn't really do anything unusual, I don't think.
-
I have chips with plenty of salt and vinegar and a buttered roll.
-
Mmm, chip butty
-
Loulou what are you trying to do to me? All this talk of KFC, McD's, BK, Pizza Hut - now fish and chips! Some of us are trying to diet!!!
Anyway, casting my mind back to the dark ages of 2005, I love fish and chip shops and nearly always have the same thing - vegetarian spring roll, chips and a pea fritter! Pea fritters seem to be a southern thing.
-
And by the way I think it is right about haggis containing barley.
-
My chip shop does pea fritter, pineapple fritter or spam fritter. It doesn't do spring rolls, but I would have those if they were available.
-
Talking of Diets!
I have lost 4.5lbs since Jan. Its slow but it's going in the right direction!
-
Chunky Chips or Thin Chips?
-
BATTERED MARS BAR!
though a battered double-decker is a close 2nd.
-
almost forgot the battered cream egg... mmm.
-
Chunky Chips or Thin Chips?
Chunky!
-
chunky every time.
-
Chunky for me too
-
Bizarre but true - thin chips are actually fattier than chunky ones.
-
I know! Chunky chips all the way!
-

-
Yep, something like that.
-
Thin!!!
-
-
WELL DONE FOR TE WEIGHT LOSS.
SAUSAGE AND CHIPS AS ALLERGIC TO FISH
-
Chunky chips are the best. Nothing better than fish and chips. A new chip shop just opened near me but they are terrible.
-
Some chip shop chips can be horrible. I like them when they are soft in the middle but kind of crunchy on the outside
I haven't eaten in Harry Ramsdons yet.

There is a Harry Ramsdens down the road from me and it definitely isn't anything special. When you walk past there late at night, the smell coming from the kitchens is horrible!
-
.minty38937.4482638889
-
Thank you for the thought Minty but I don't eat any kind of fish or sea food.
-
CC don't bother with Harry Ramsdens. Overpriced and undercooked.
-
I was going to go into the one in Blackpool when I was there last year but we went to a chippy instead.
I will avoid it in the future. They taste better out of the bag with a wooden fork anyway
-
Harry's in blackpool was such a disappointment for me. really nothing special.
-
They taste better out of the bag with a wooden fork anyway
Are chip shops not allowed to use newspaper anymore?
-
greasy chips with newspaper print all over them - mmm - those were the days.
-
They taste better out of the bag with a wooden fork anyway
Are chip shops not allowed to use newspaper anymore?
Probably not. They use that whitey grey paper now. Still has the same effect though
-
There is a particularly nice smell of vinegar with newspaper ink that you don't get from the white paper they use now.
-
EXACTLY! wasnt it amazing?
-
I don't like it when they give you your chips in a polyostyrene box. Ruins it.
I liked battered sauages as well. They are horrendously fattening but lovely
-
how about when thery're served up in a 'cone'. i hate that.
-
God I hate that too!

You only get about 10 chips in the cone anyway.
I know its more healthy but if I am having chips, I want loads cos I am being purposely unhealthy!!
-
.minty38937.4476273148
-
we get alot of that 'cone' crap down here, what with it being a seaside town. cant beat the fish, though.
-
Chips are served in cones as normal practice in the Netherlands. You get a huge blob of mayo on the top few chips and none reaches the chips lower down. Very annoying.
-
chips, fish, sausages... whatever (!) - should only ever be wrapped very clumsily in greasy paper. its part of what makes it tasty. (preferably newspaper)
-
.minty38937.4473726852
-
There's probably a bit of European legislation says you can't
-
indeed there is
-
That legislation should be scrapped. If we want to eat our chips off newspaper we should be able to!
-
It's all cardboard boxes in the chip shops here. Not a sign of paper anywhere.
-
All this talk of chips yesterday ... on the way home I got chips from the chip shop for my tea. I made chip butties mmmmmmmmmmm...
-
One of our local chippies serves it all posh in a box with a slice of lemon. The one we usually use wraps it in white paper then a plastic carrier. It tastes much better from there.
-
I got a polystyrene tray, white paper and a plastic carrier bag. The carrier bag gets full of condensation though, you don't want to keep it in there too long!
-
Theres nothing like going to the seaside and getting a portion of chips to walk along the pier and eat!
-
I know, the f*****g seagulls pinch your chips!
-

-
-
Lou those look like herons. I get herons in my garden trying to eat my fish from the pond
-
Can't they go to The Golden Plaice like everyone else?
-
Finch and Chimps.
-
Chish and fips?
-
yup that the new meal for bhiipp to the cut in EU fishing qutei beening cut so ther have found this New meal idea!
