Angelas Ashes... while very good, it depressed me like no other movie - ever. to the point of almost not being very entertaining.

I agree. That movie was too sad and anything that upsets me that much isn't good.

But the book is very funny! depressing too, it's true but very funny! And it makes me ANGRY to think of what ordinary people had to suffer in the name of religion and politics.

I couldn't get on with the book at all - the style of writing just irritated me.  It was a long time ago but it was something to do with the lack of speech marks...

Hmmm, that was fashionable in contemporary fiction a few years back. A pointless gimmick.

About the same time (and equally as pointless) as titles not having capitals at the beginning, eg 'dinnerladies'.
