Post by: loulou on February 13, 2006, 10:16:44 pm
Is it as healthy or tasty as fresh fruit? Discuss.

I'm not sure about the health aspect but I do enjoy tinned fruit. I could just eat a tin of cherries now actually.

It doesn't bear much resemblance to fresh fruit but sometimes it's nice for a change. Definitely not as healthy though. I like tinned mandarin orange segments.

As long as you buy tinned fruit in natural juice it is fine, fruit in syrup is definitely not good. I buy berries frozen as fresh ones in punnets go mouldy extremely quickly and I don't see them much in tins at the supermarket.

If its in juice its fine, but syrup is a no no health wise.
I don't buy much tinned fruit, only pineapple. But I do enjoy what I get.
I am having loads of fruit for lunch today with some low fat natural yogurt

I love tinned pinapple and tinned plums and tinned rhurbarb. Fresh is best but only if you eat it soon after it's picked. Tinned fruit in juice counts as a five-a-day portion.
