Title: Manicures
Post by: loulou on February 13, 2006, 10:13:10 pm
Had one today. What does one think is a reasonable amount to pay?

I've never had one so I wouldn't know, being a big hairy bloke.

It's very metrosexual for men to have manicures. I like clean hands.

I have never had sex in a Metro, they're isn't the room for someone of my height.

I think 50p would be reasonable.  I've never had a manicure in my life.

Depends on the treaments and length of time Lou but I would pay around £10 for a basic manicure and up to £20 for a luxury manicure. What was your manicure like Lou? Did you get a nice coloured polish or go for French style?

Pale pink polish cherry and it was £10. I normally have false nails but am trying to grow mine. My nails are very weak and break easily.

I used to have fake nails but they were more trouble than they were worth and were costing me £20 a fortnight!

I swear by Solar Oil, it moisturises nails well and stops them from breaking. Also keeps your skin nice and soft  and smells lovely (well it smells like marzipan which I think is lovely)

I have a split in my nail. Its bizarre how I done it. I was switching a plug off and my nail caught on the top and split. I have got a plaster on it today as its too far back to cut...its gonna hurt if it spilts anymore

I bit my nails really low up until I was 17. I had tried everything to quit. I got a job as a waitress and was very self conscious about people seeing my hands. So my College tutor suggested I had nail extensions (in those days they were made from fibreglass, not acrylic). You can't bite through it plus the cost for me was also an incentive to stop biting. It was one of the best things I ever did. Now I have beautiful nails.

You can buy white cotton gloves at the chemist for about £1. Apply your handcream, put on your gloves and go to bed then not only will you not get scratched but the gloves help your cream soak in!

I don't man to bite them, I do it unconciously when I am anxious - which is often! They don't look too bad but my fingers are all funny shapes anyway so I am not sure if nice nails would make much difference.

Well done to all those who have been able to stop!

My nails are really strong and grow very quickly but I have to keep them short because of playing the cello. I do sometimes wear nail polish but I think it looks strange on short nails.

I am a nibbler, not really a biter. But my nails are truely pants! Far too soft and they split and shread all the time.

My hub paid for me to have a full set of acrylics done for my 40th and I loved them. Only went for frech polish finish, nothing too bright, didn't want to draw too much attention to my podgey little hands!

I loved having them, kept them for 4 months and missed them when I gave them up!

For me my 'bad' habit it is... I am a confirmed hair twiddler, especailly when my hair is freshly washed and soft, although happy to 'twiddle' at anytime really
