Title: Chocolate Bar Challenge
Post by: Boostboy on February 04, 2006, 08:37:13 pm

First post here, so hi everybody.

I'm embarking on a chocolate eating adventure.  I'm attempting to try all commercially available chocolate bars in Britain (within reason).  I've used the list on this website, but having done so, I've discovered that many of the bars listed are no longer in circulation.  I'd be incredibly appreciative of some guidance as to which of the bars on my list have been discontinued.  Also, if there are any new chocolate bars not on the website list, which I may have missed, I'd like to add them to the list.

The list is here: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&f riendID=18326863&blogID=84436688&MyToken=20f0c8bf-0c 8e-4ef3-bf32-b008be605fec

Yes, I'm afraid it is a myspace blog.  You're all probably gonna look at me as a chocolate eating newbie, but I'll get there.  I'm hoping to have the list near-completed by Easter.  Also, I'll probably swing by these forums every now and again to let you know how I'm getting on.  Thanks in advance.

Welcome Boostboy. I am intrigued. Why are you trying this challenge? Is it a charity challenge? It sounds a lovely past time but are you aware of the health implications? It sounds like the chocolate version of Supersize me!

Good luck with your challenge. I'll certainly look at your blog and help if I can.

If it helps I think you can cross the mint and orange varieties of Time Out off your list, and Toffee Crisp Orange, Snickers No Nougat and Cadbury's Pnut and Peanut Sub. Also Nuts About Caramel Double Choc, Nobble, Dime Orange and Cola, Bitz Mint, and most of the Crunchie varieties you list. Sorry!

Have you tried Terry's Caramel Bite and KitKat Tiramisu? Both fairly new on the market. Also if you're serious about trying everything, I don't think you can say you won't both with the CDM bars because you know you won't like them!

I was addicted to Boosts for about a year, but my appetite for them has faded recently.  I felt lost and bewildered every time I went to buy a chocolate bar.  I needed some direction in my chocolate eating life, and after some thought, I felt that this was it.  I'm afraid it's not for charity, or any kind of dare.  I think I'm probably slightly odd and also a little bored with everything.

Thanks ever so much for the info, smurfboy - the list will be updated accordingly.  I'd buy you a chocolate bar in thanks if I could.  I also agree about the CDM selection.  I was in a moment of disillusion with them after trying the mint chip.

I managed to cross of mars delight from my list today.  I'll probably aim for one every day, or it could end up being an incredibly unhealthy hobby.

Since when did Mars Delight have coffee in it?

I love Mars Delight

I love Mars Delight too although I've never actually bought one.  When they came out my brother-in-law was promoting them and he gave me a box about a metre cubed, full of them, which lasted me quite a while.  I do think they're overpriced for the size of them but they're nice from the fridge.

I like to buy them so I can eat one half, and save the other for later.

About five minutes later usually!

You can also cross off:
Aero Honeycombe
DM Quick
Twix Mint & Triple Chocolate
Yorkie Nut & Honeycombe

You need to add Milky Bar Choo, Milky Bar, Smarties, there is a whole load of Lindt bars missing from your list, what about all the other aero bars?

Thanks a lot.  I've already had a few milky bar choos in my time, along with milky bar and smarties of course, so they didn't make the list.  I'll look into the whole Lindt situation.  I'm going into town today, so I should be able to cross off a few, or at least buy them.

... and the same probably goes for the aeros.  In retrospect, I probably should have made a list of all chocolate bars rather than just the ones I haven't tried.  It'd make it a lot less confusing.

What a commendable plan.
Yes I admit the discontinued status of the products in the review is a bit off at the moment. I'm probably going to re-code how discontinued products are dealt with (they're currently a category on their own, but they shouldn't really be stored that way in my database).
I've got scans of about 20 more products (mostly big bars) to go on the site so with any luck they'll go up over the weekend .
Don't forget Boostboy to give your score out of 10 into the chocolate review for every bar you try.

Just a little update:

Things are still going well.  Major hits so far have been the Texan, and Dairy Milk Turkish (I get very mixed reactions whenever I mention that).

I'm slowly working my way there.  Still a little confusion as to what actually is available and what isn't.  It seems there are a few 'Wonka' bars back in the mix, 2 of which I've already tried.  A trip to Woolworths is on the cards this week, so I can cross off Fry's Orange Cream and the final Wonka bar (unless there are more than three).

I have been doing some voting on the site, btw.  I felt it's the least I could do to give something back.

Well it's always been my philosophy and so far I think I've got away with it.
