I gave up on it about five years ago because they moved Shortland Street opposite it. I do like to watch it occasionally now though because Paul is back in it, and Gail is coming back too (yay!)
I was gutted when Daphne died. Me and my sister used to act out her death scene in the garden. She would be Daphne and I would be Des, and then Beverly trying to shock her back.
she never coming back sh ended up on croos roads
It could happen on Neighbours...
Yay, I now have 6000 posts!
She had big shoulder pads, big sleeves and a huge, gravity-defying quiff hairdo. She was fabulous.
She had big shoulder pads, big sleeves and a huge, gravity-defying quiff hairdo.
She used to be an air hostess, Smurfy.
She did indeed. I'll always remember when she left, dragging a suitcase out at eight months pregnant...
Does anyone remember that Paul was once married to a plumber called Terry? That is absolutely true.
I stopped being fond of the programme when Daphne gave birth without taking her jeans off. At the time i was a new mum who had just endured a 48 hour labour!
I never watch it now but if they're bringing back some old faces I might look in. I used to lie Joe Mangle
Joe Mangel has just come back Spicy!
I've just realised why you don't remember Gail, Choccy Chick - you're too young! You'd have only been six when she left which is why you remember Paul being with the twins. I remember Terry; she turned out to be a murderess, shot Paul when she was trying to go on the run and then committed suicide in prison! Neighbours was more adult then because it was being made for a 7pm slot in Oz, not a 5.30 on the BBC. That's why for years in the nineties the most dramatic thing that ever happened was Helen dropping a cake.
What about when the doc Saved Lucy from anaphalactic shock using a biro? And they didn't even know he was a doctor!
And what about Lucy? She nearly died from a bee sting, had a brain tumour, got kidnapped and God knows what else!
Whatever happend to little Toby Mangle?
And what about Harold. his first wife died from cancer. He married an old school sweetheart. His daughter dies because she is mistaken for a duck and he then falls off a rock and drowns for I don't know how many years before re-appearing only to lose his second wife to cancer.
As you haven't been watching lately you probably won't know his son, daughter-in-law and grandaughter all died in a plane crash last week!
I hated Jim Robinson! i couldn't help remembering him in The Young Doctors with a terrible bubble perm.
Helen Daniels had so many strokes she could kiss her knees without bending down.
She also fell over in the garage and landed unconscious with the exhaust pipe of a running motor car up her left nostril. She was there for hours but she still survived. Anyone else would have been dead in thirty seconds.
At least she didn't slip on spilt milk and lose 30 years of her memory like Susan!

So you were the other viewer for Shortland street Smurfy! I used to love that. It was on around the time my boys were very young and I used to get to watch it around their nap time!
Have you noticed how it crops up on a lot of those out take types of shows?
I was really peeved when they stopped showing it on Meridian... right in the middle of some gripping story line about possums or something!
I was gutted. It got dropped in loads of regions when they brought back Crossroads, but they kept it in Central. It's best days were gone when they eventually did drop it but I was still upset. I was in pieces when Tiffany died - I kept willing her to have a miracle recovery!
Neighbours the go old days!
Did anyone ever watch A Country Practice? Again, when I was at home with my kiddies that was on in the afternoons. It was nice and gentle.
I can't believe how I spent my time before I went back to work! Watch TV in the afternoons now? It just can't be done!!

I loved ACP too! I miss those days. I'm off work today and am shocked at how poor daytime telly is these days.
I'm off work today
A liaison with your boss, is it???
Spatz - wicked! And Mike and Angelo! But the best kids programme ever... drumoroll...
Knightmare!
How could I forget T-Bag? I loved it soooo much!!! It went a bit crap when Diane from Emmerdale left and was replaced by Georgina Hale though.
You big soppy girl, hating Knightmare.
Does anyone remember a children's programme called Grotbag?
My son's primary school teacher looked just like her!
It's like a prep school for Eastenders!
Lynne Slater, Billy Mitchell, Juley Smith...
My kids used to love Tots TV. Although slightly odd set up... two guys, a french girl and a donkey living together!?!
That's no so unusual around here.
When my children were small I became very concerned about the lack of strong female characters in tiny tots TV. We had Thomas the Tank Engine, Postman Pat, Fireman Sam, Bob the Builder....I could go on.
Even where females were represented, their characters were passive rather than active; serving in the shop, making lunch and even worse, in the case of Thomas the Tank Engine, the female engines were lazy, over-made-up floozies (Daisy and Clarabelle) who never ran on time.
How can a modern mum bringing up a daughter cope with such negative stereotyping?
I hope nobody took my post serously. It was supposed to be tongue in cheek.
Yea, those kids on Scooby Do have been wearing the same clothes for at least thirty years.
And they haven't aged at all!
With my pink scarf and coat in the car I look like Penelope Pitstop when I am driving.
Does anyone remember a children's programme called Grotbag?

Grotbags was a spin-off from Rod Hulland Emu's Pink Windmill programme. She was the witch who wanted to kidnap Emu.
I didn't watch Press Gang avidly but I do remember it. I think you can get it on DVD now.
Why did the powers that be never release Supergran on DVD
Supergran was a superhero from the books by Forrest Wilson. It was a mid-80s TV series with a theme tune sung by Billy Connoly.
I remember Lucy Benjamin being in Press Gang.
Did you get the address right cc? I went there and the site is for sale!
I found an essay on the internet once, written completely without irony, suggesting that Smurfette had set the women's movement back twenty years. It complained about her always wearing a dress as it made her a stereotype, and that it was always the same dress - 'which suggests her personal hygiene is poor. How can we respect her in light of this?' Someone should tell the poor deluded woman that most cartoon characters always wear the same clothes!
Here is the link for the 'Smurfy Sexism' essay - it's hilarious!
Julia Sawalha, Dexter Fletcher, Lee Ross, Gabrielle Anwar... they've all done very well. You can get the first series on DVD I think.
There are 5 seasons released on DVD Smurfy, I think that's all of them?
It was on Fridays, but they used to have CITV Sunday mornings, so perhaps they repeated it then.
That's right, I remember now, they did a repeat run on 4 on Sunday evenings in the days before ITV and Channel 4 became independent of each other.
He is still as lovely nowas he was all those years ago!!! hardly aged at all!
