Lou, don't worry, restaurants buy their potatoes ready washed. Yes, I do eat the skin and it's fantastic. However, potatoes are not nearly as nice as they used to be.

I like to eat the skin. It is perfect when its nice and crispy from the oven. You don't seem to get the cripsy skin when its cooked in the microwave.

I love the hot potato van in Bilston - cheese and beans is my fave  and I do always eat the skin. I also love the veg chilli potatoes from the New York Deli Co. in Brum - they're expensive and you have to wait ages, but I have a major crush on someone who works there so I don't mind

My work has special ovens solely for baking potatoes; the baked potatoes here are gorgeous. I am not such a fan of microwaved potatoes; I eat the skin but it is not so tasty.

I could make it at home in ten minutes! All I need is some cheese, marmite - and a smaaalll aubergine...
Title: JACKET POTATO
Post by: chocolate chick on January 30, 2006, 10:20:28 am
Why an aubergine?

There is an old Asian woman who is normally watching a top chef prepare something amazing, who announces she could 'make it at home in ten minutes!' Throughout the series she claims to be able to make increasingly bizarre things, but it always involves a smaaaalll aubergine.

When you're dieting, cut the amount of butter you have in half and use garlic salt instead of regular - yum.

I might try some garlic salt in future. Is it like normal salt, therefore only 6g?

If you cook your potatoes in the microwave, you kust have to finish them off in a very hot oven to crisp tthe skins.

Is it just my local hot potato man, or does everyone get enough butter to cause a coronary when they go to the hot spud shop? Even when I ask for just a bit of butter I get half a packet.

My work is like that Smurfy so I never take mine with butter.

There was some controversy about quorn quite recently but I can't remember what it was all about.  I used to eat a lot of it when my son was a veggie.  Do they still do Linda McCartney meals?  I used to like the lasagne.

I don't like veggie dishes that pretend to be meat (veggie burgers and sausages). I'd rather just have cauliflower cheese.

I agree. Veg should taste like veg. Proper veggie burgers like Birdseye Vegetable Quarter Pounders are yum - the soya ones are sh*te.
