Title: Rhubarb
Post by: loulou on January 15, 2006, 07:17:08 pm
Why does no one ever mention rhubarb now. Doesn't anyone ever eat it and don't you think it could be nice with some sort of dark choc sauce?

You sound like my mother. If God wanted you to have coloured hair and hoops in your ears and nose he would have made you that way.

I like rhubarb yogurt - especially Activia.

I LOVE rhubarb and it's VERY good for you. When I was on a drastic diet some years ago and lost 3 stone in just a few months, I ate loads of rhubarb with a dab of plain yoghurt because it's very low in calories (as long as you don't add loads of sugar or cumble topping!).

Chocolate with a soft and delicate rhubarb filling would be delicious.

Lou make us all a rhubarb and chocolate pie each and we will give you our opinions. Or maybe Heavenly Truffles should make a rhubarb variety?

I  rhubarb and grow it in my garden. Lou I like your suggestion, I think it would go well with dark chocolate.

At my local bakery they sell rhubarb and cherry slice. It's a sponge cake base with rhubarb and cherry fruit topping. Very nice

As Kitty said, 'If God had wanted us to wear leotards, he'd have painted us purple'.

I love rhubarb fool. Puree some rhubarb with a dash of icing sugar, good quality cold custard and fresh cream (or creme frache or natural yoghurt). serve chilled.

That sounds lovely oldspice. I will have to try it when I get some rhubarb.

Does anyone know when it is in season?

Rhubarb needs cold weather to trigger growth. I get my first crop of rhubarb around Easter and it keeps growing until late summer. It does get damaged by frost though so you have to take care of it.

I can recommend Morrisons Rhubarb yoghurt, quite thick but nice and the fruit is chunky, especially as they only cost 95p for 5!

And don't forget you have to eat them every day for them to work!  That advert always makes me laugh - it's so unrealistic.

Yes, I have them in the freezer too. I put them on my morning porridge. Do you have any good recipe suggestions for these as well, CC?

Well tonight I am making blueberry muffins. I will leave the blueberries whole as they look really good once they are cooked.
