Title: Old long-forgotten sweets
Post by: oldspice on October 26, 2005, 08:32:11 pm

I was doing some research for a lecture I am delivering on language, culture and advertising. I came across some pics of old 50s sweets and among them was a box of sweets that had a hard shell and chocolate centre and they were called Cabanas! They were made by Cadburys too!

Also seen was a Frys bar called Punch. Now, I think these were available in the 1960s too but were discontinued in the mid-late 60s. I have a feeling they were fudge filled but can't be sure.

Also saw a Cadbury's bar filled with pineapple cream.

They did Frys Punch in the 30s as well as a Judy bar. The Judy
bar didn't last long I think but yes the Punch made it through to
the 60's.

Thanks CC. Were Punch bars fudge-filled do you know?

Oldspice you should scan the pic of Cabana and send it to Cadbury's. I'm sure they have claimed that they never made it?

No, this wasn't the Cabana bar, it was a box of chocolates called Cabana. However, as Cadbury almost certainly trade-marked the name even when they stopped making the box of chocolates, we can be fairly confident that they also made the Cabana bar.
