Title: Chocaholic’s heaven - like a pig in muck.
Post by: on October 14, 2005, 09:19:47 pm

I have been recently working unsupervised in a large warehouse.  Around me included 20 pallets of Toblerone one by one.  On each pallet was 100 retail boxes and in each box was 6 boxes of Toblerone one by ones.  Work that out!

I'm ashamed to say that a box had been opened and I did have a couple of free handfuls.  That was it honest...

...ooh apart from the Needlers Turkish Delight.  Definitely left the Aero alone though.

So bounty what you are saying is you cannot be trusted to work unsupervised because you get the urge to steal. Shame on you.

It's not stealing if you take it from work - it's revenge

If I stole anything from my boss he would sack me. I took some stuff from college once and they said if I didn't give it back I would be thrown off my course.

There was a survey recently and apparently the UK is the worst nation in Europe for stealing from work.

623 - I don't know if the law in Scotland  is different from England but it is definitely NOT true that taking something that is not yours on public ground is not stealing. Firstly, a warehouse where people are employed is NOT public. Secondly, if you lost your wallet and it was found laying on the ground in the street, anyone who takes it and uses the contents IS STEALING.

An open lorry full of sweets waiting to be delivered is SOMES PROPERTY and if people help themselves from the lorry they are STEALING.

Bounty - there is no grey area - you were naughty but most people in your position would have done the same. However, most people would draw the line at robbing the back of a truckload of sweets.

I do feel bad about it.  But the box was open and I thought I could hear them calling me

By my calculations there were over 400,000 individual One by Ones in that warehouse and I had about nine or 10.

The Needlers Turkish Delight were out of date since November 2004, because the Farmfoods they were destined for had closed down and it was redundant stock and apparently every man and his dog was eating them. Was that stealing?

Morally yes, but in pragmatic terms it was an acceptable requisition!

In England, if you borrow money from an unlicensed money lender, the debts are not recoverable in law. However, they have their methods.

I doubt whether the law of theft differs much between England and Scotland. If you take something that is not yours, whatever the law says, it is morally theft.

I wonder if Gordon Brown will force England to adopt Scottish law when he "succeeds" Tony Blair...

Personally I don't see the harm in that, as surely they could only be thrown out anyway.

Indeed. In England for example we do not have a Procurator Fiscal. He/She was a thorn in my side in my old job... Ah... happy days...
