Title: Why you should always buy chocolate...
Post by: smurfboy on September 19, 2005, 06:35:07 pm

Last night in Sainsburys I got a hankering for some CDM Bubbly (they have CDM at the tills as it's on offer at the mo.) I couldn't see any, and at the back of my mind I knew I had a cupboard full of chocolate, so I decided to let fate take a hand: if there was some at the till I got called to, I'd buy it. If not I'd be good and resist choc altogether. When I got to the till, it was the only CDM they had! Obviously it was meant to be.

I'd also bought two veggie lasagnes because they were reduced to 40p. As they were being scanned through, an automatic discount kicked in; at full price they are two for £3.50, which is a discount of 80p. However, because they were only 40p anyway now, I got them FREE! Had I not bought the CDM, the till assistant would probably have noticed I was getting them free as my bill would only have come to 30p. So that proves you should always follow your instinct and buy chocolate!

Doesn't it?

Actually Sainsbury's are good like that.  When I was in there a few weeks ago the assistant drew my attention to some deals like this near the checkouts that meant you actually got the stuff free.

Well done smurfy

Perhaps Sainsbury's are improving. All the Sainsbury's staff I know are very miserable.

I think this one was just too thick to realise!

I will have to have a closer look in Sainsbury's at their bargains next time I go in there.

Somerfield are good at reducing things. For example a garlic bread just
on its date and it was down from £1.29 to 25p! Thats how you get rid of
things!

I got a cockroach in a punnet of plums from
Sainsburys, I didn't notice it until I was halfway
through eating one of the plums. There's another
reason why it's better to buy chocolate.

I bet that's a delicacy in some counties, plummed cockroach.

At least it was only the plum you ate

Quite right choc chick! Last Sunday I got two of those Gu (needs an umlaut...) chocolate souffles in Somerfield (complete with glass ramekins) for £1 and they were reduced but still within their date by a day. They tasted absolutely gorgeous!

There are usually good marked-down prices in Somerfield but you have to be careful with the dates - in our Somerfield some of the bread rolls are past their date and still on the shelves. The man in front of me at the checkout on Sunday had bread rolls which were reduced; when he put them on the conveyor belt they were upside down and you could see they were blue with mould! He pointed it out to the assistant but he couldn't get a replacement.

That brings back memories of the plum I had with a maggot inside. I can still see it winking at me.

Thats exactly how you clear things from the shelves and I bet they are
still making money at that price. I hope you kept the little ramekins?
They are usual when cooking.

On the other side of the coin I recently bought a reduced mini trifle in Select and Save that was actually still in date by a day, and the cream was clearly off. I was almost sick

My boss just brought a bottle of Innocent Smoothie, he opened it and it
was fizzing everywhere. That can't be a good sign, needless to say it
went straight in the bin.

I have a habit of smelling things before I eat them. I am not entirely
sure why I do this but if it smells funny I don't eat it.

Smoothies can be a bit dodgy.  I bought a loaf of Asda 'Longlife' bread on Thursday night last week, and on Saturday morning it was covered in mould.  I took it back and they just replaced it. Not impressed.

When I have taken things like that back to Asda they gave me a replacement AND my money back.

I can see why they wouldn't want to sell women's sex aids!
