The queues here at the petrol stations are miles long and some have already ran out. Have you all topped up?

I am very lucky. I live just over ten minutes walk from my place of work and only two of us in an office of 9 actually walk to work. Hold on a minute - am I lucky? If the others can't get to work, who will have to cover their classes?

Remember 'snow days'? Can't you declare a 'petrol
day'? I used to love snow days, we used to go
sledging and playing in the snow all day. At least the
schoolkids won't be able to play with any petrol
though.

623058 don't you think £1 a litre is a bit expensive.I think the buses, taxis etc will be putting their prices up too.

I cycle to work, it takes about ten minutes.  I do need my car in the evenings though.

What are snow days?  Don't get me on snow again...

I think people often perceive driving to be more expensive than public transport.

Up until 6 weeks ago I did catch the bus to work. My journey is about 8 miles one way plus I have to negotiate a ferry ride across a river (oh the wonders of living in Cornwall and working in Devon). I was paying over £50 per month for a bus service which was always late or didn't turn up at all. When the bus did arrive it was very old (from the 1970s - and no, I'm not kidding) and often broke down.

Now I bring my car to work. I put less than £30 of fuel in last month and have always been on time. No way would I go back to public transport!

And no, I have not bought petrol since last week and won't buy any this week.

I get the train to work, I do not have an option there as I work in
central london but my boyfriend is a bricklayer and can be working on
serveral different sites a week. Last week it cost him £120 in petrol.
It crippling for people like that.

I have a scooter and a car. The scooter costs me
about £5 per week in petrol to do about 50 miles.
Goldencup, snow days are when we used to get the
day off school because it snowed.

unforuntly this the promblem, with your bad exspence on PT poeple don't travel on it, and you make other poeple not wanting to travel on it, which is causing the cirlce of loessing PT.

bus travel, is getting better, not as fast, but it is getting thier,  Ask First about your route,  demand why teh new buese still can't run on it, unforuntly more poeple need to take teh bus where I live you can around the whoel town £7 - week hoispatl, leisure park, work. &16 - Whole FIFE.  PLEASE don't give up on Pulbic transport unforunlty you have to put up with FIRST ( thier REALLY have probloms I can can give you a whole list if you want.

In reposne to Loulou: No £1 a little is not to too much as if poele don't use some much cloogging up the road with 4x4 / gas graser and  siting in ques doing nothing then it would last longer, like a france / grecee?

£1 a litre is definately too much. Like I explained before, my
boyfriend is a self employed bricklayer. He lives in Aylesford (near
Maidstone) One week he can be in Beckenham, the next he can be in East
Grinstead. He relies on his car to make a living and his take home
money is decreasing. He drives a Ford Mondeo.

623058 you seem to like public transport but do you think buses run on fresh air?? And do you not sit in a queue doing nothing waiting for a bus?

I can get the bus home from the
trainstation in the evening but by the time I wait for it. it's just as
quick to walk. I save £1 and get some exercise!
Title: Petrol

But you couldn't get on public transport if you were carrying tools.
Title: Petrol
Post by: chocolate chick on September 14, 2005, 01:15:30 pm
Thats my point, he has a bucket with a load or brick laying things in.
My home and work are both central and within comfortable walking
distance of a trainstation. Whereas a site he is working on might not
be anywhere near a trainstation. He also starts at 7.30 in the
morning!

IF feasible, reliable, effective, safe and clean public transport were available in this country a lot more people would use it. However, there is little or no incentive, other than the crippling taxes that the government pile upon everything. You pay tax on your money at least 4 or 5 times. Income tax, tax on savings, VAT, petrol and road taxes, tobacco taxes (for smokers) and levies on alcohol (for drinkers). It is disgusting and i do not see anything close to "value for money". Will Prescott support his party and surrender his "two Jags"? I think not. Its a classic example of good old fashioned left wing corruption coupled with painful "human rights" and political correctness. I know that TOO MUCH of my tax payments fund the lazy and the opportunistic whilst i struggle to feed and clothe my family. Something can't be right here...

The new buses do run on my route but not at the time when I wanted the bus. Up until August I regularly complained to First in writing, I even logged all the buses which did not run. They just kept sending me free travel vouchers and the 'service' did not change so I have given up on them; they obviously don't need my custom.

It doesn't matter to me how much the bus costs (within reason) if it doesn't get me to work safely and on time then I will not use it.

bus travel is changing BUT NOT FAST ENOUGH so car will stil be king and we stil be stick in traffice.   MY BY ther shoudl use the ROAD TAX Money REPAIRING ROADS adn keeping them in top condition instead of having 40 year old network.
