I'm sure Double Deckers used to have raisins in. Was this a special edition, or did they change the recipe?
-
A common question, yes they had raisins in and then were changed.
-
It's funny, but for all my good memory of chocolate bars going back into the mists of time, I don't actually remember the raisins being in Double Deckers. Perhaps I just did not notice them? Were they in the biscuit bit?
Why don't they put raisins in Topic bars? You just can't beat white nougat, milk or dark chocolate and raisins.
-
The new version with Nuts is fantastic.
-
Aaaarrrggghhhh! I am hitting my head off a brick wall here!
-
I love double deckers but can't remember any raisins in them neither.
-
and you call yourselves choc lovers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For those that do not remember, the raisins were in the base.
-
I remember Paulham. They were in the base. I know you are a raisin fan, but a place for everything and everything in its place. For example - i do not think the raisin belongs in the Revels - especially as it appears (i may be wrong but it seems to me) to be at the expense of the peanut revel...
-
and that can only be a great thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[if you know my feeling on peanuts]
-
Couldn't agree more Paulham - peanuts are the devil's food! I never used to like raisins which is probably why I hadn't tried a DD years ago. Having tried and loved my first DD only this week, I can see that raisins would make them even better as for some reason I now love them. Especially yogurt raisins from the health food shop, although they have a phenominal fat content and therefore aren't very healthy at all!
-
I think DDs would be nice with raisins in the nougat.
-
I like peanuts on their own and they are nice in Snickers bars. But given the choose I would have raisins in more bars of chocolate. There are plenty of bars for nut lovers what about the raisin lovers out there (paulham!)
-
Poppets are good to fall back on. See my avatar.
-
I admit they are always quietly at the top of my favourites list!
-
But it's also nice to have raisins in a chewy nougat bar or wrapped in fondant and chocolate instead of always just coated in chocolate.
-
To me that is strange sounding, in that the two textures don't contrast, rather your jaws are operating at different speeds for the nougat then the raisin.
Hey, what do I know?

technical stuff

Hiya,
Just eating a double decker and was thinking about the whole raisin thing so googled and found this thread.
I emailed cadburys back in Jan 2003 about this and they changed the recipe in 1986 after consumer research - though I don't recall being asked
They first came out in 1978 if anyone is interested/cares
Reckon they should do a limited edition with the raisins back in...
-
According to my mother they did the same with Star Bar and Picnic - she reckons Star Bars used to be like Boosts, and Picnics didn't have raisins!
-
Maybe they needed the raisins from the double deckers for the picnics
Can't imagine a picnic without raisins.
-
Why are they taking all the raisins out...it won't be long and all bars will be pracitcally the same!
-
Je prefferé la "toffie crisp" je nem pas le nuts
-
if they changed the recipe in 1986 that wud have meant i'd have been one at the time, so i definately would not remember there being raisins in double deckers.
-
i love the DD with nuts and i adore chocolate with raisins but i cant stand peanuts and raisins together in chocolate (picnic- yuk) and it spoils the Revels to get peanut and raisin ones at the same time
