space hopper
-
We had one exactly like that lou. It was 'handed down' to me from my aunt. It lasted really well until recently when one of my aunt's dogs got hold of it
-
I wonder how much one would be worth now.
-
I had one just like it. At my primary school sports day we had a spacehopper race for a couple of years. I didn't win it though.
-
We only ever had egg and spoon race but it was a potato not a egg, and a sack race. I came last everytime.
-
i stopped entering for the sack race because the sack always won.
I didn't have a Space Hopper but always wanted one. I think I was about 10 when they came out so was probably a bit too old for one.
My treasured possession at that time was my Jacko Skates (ones that you had to fit your feet into with your plimsols on. They were metal and you could alter the length bu unscrewing the bottom). They were the last gift from my mum who died when i was 10.
-
I would be in that sack all of 5 seconds before I fell over. It would be good to see a pic of Jacko skates. I'm not too sure if I remember them.
-
I certainly had those kind of skates but don't remember if they were called Jacko. They didn't have brakes either!
-
To describe them, you slipped your feet into the leather "toes" which were like shoes but open toed with laces to do up. Then you secured the skates by drawing a buckle around your ankles. It was like wearing sandles but they were made of metal and leather. If you wanted to make them longer, for bigger feet, you unscrewed the nut and bolt underneath and "stetched" them by unsliding a bit more metal until they were the right size. It's kind of hard to explain. Jacko was the name of the brand and it was printed in a slant across the leather toe bits.
No brakes! And solid rubber tyres. I was in my element and must have had them skates until I was about 16 at least!
-
If anyone would like a space hopper I can get them at discount - adult size ones. I was a bit too big for it (I'm 6ft 4) but if you're of more average height they should be fine.
-
i wouldn't be seen on a spacehopper now.lol

Lou they looked a bit like this. Mine had cherry red leather straps but I don't think mine were lace-ups.

-
Those are just like Jacko Skates. The laces are on the toe bits
-
I had skates like that, you could keep your shoes on and they were
yellow. You slipped your shoed foot into the toe bit and then the strap
went round your ankle. Very hard to stop in though.
I never had a space hopper. It never really appealed to me.
-
Thanks for that pic cherry ripe.
-
That piccie brings back great memories. Chocolate
chick - you're right, very hard to keep on, my toes
always used to flip out of the front bit whilst the ankle
strap stayed on. I learned the hard way not to skate
barefoot in them.
-
I can to the conclusion that skating was not for me. Definately not in barefoot, seemed like such a good idea at the time

I was a big fan of lego. I loved building little houses.
