Bananas never taste bananary now.Chiquita and Del monte ones are disgusting and I usually stick to Fyffes but still not very bananary.

What bananas do you like?

Fair Trade ones from Sainsbury's.

Yes, fairtrade ones are best because they come from the Carribean, the natural home of bananas. South American bananas (Chiquita et al) are too large and floury. I used to be in the fruit trade many years ago and know all about bananas!

That's interesting - I've always been convinced that Fairtrade ones taste best and now you've proved it.  I hate them when they go all 'woody'.

Winward Island bananas are the best. When I was in the trade, 90% of bananas imported into the Uk came from there. Then, the department of trade said it was unfair to put a levy on non-Winward Island bananas and that made South American bananas more competitive. However, they were controlled by big companies whereas Winward Island bananas (the fruit being the main source of income for the Islands) were produced by small holders and cooperatives. Thus we had the banana wars. I am glad that the case for Fairtrade bananas is being made loud and clear because without the banana trade the people will suffer greatly.

organic ones from tescos, they are nice
