Title: Terry’s chocolate orange cake....
Post by: one_serious_chocoholic on October 25, 2004, 03:01:49 pm

I love this one;

Just make the mixture of any basic chocolate cake.....then place in the oven for a few minutes. When the mixture is still liquid but slightly harder, drop a Terry's chocolate orange into the centre and cover with the cake mixture.

Once it's cooked, you can cut into the cake and the chocolate orange just oozes out......gorgeous.

I like the sound of this but I'm not sure if I've got the nerve to try it - sounds like the timing of adding the chocolate orange is a bit crucial and I'm not the best cook in the world.  Someone else try it first please!

It took me a few goes to put the choc orange in at just the right time! Well worth the fuss though, as it tastes heavenly. I found it helps if the choc orange is slightly cold first (in fridge or freezer), so it doesn't go too gooey to fast...

I hope you like it! It's become my and my flatmates' essential Friday 'Green Wing' viewing companion...!!!

Does it work with a creme egg instead of the chocolate orange?

.....I haven't tried that, but I'm sure it would. It sounds good actually!

I think you'd need several creme eggs to equal one chocolate orange.

Everyone in my office loves Green Wing but I've never seen it. I'm told it's right up my street because I love weird humour (I was a great fan if Nighty Night and Shameless). Weird humour and chocolate cake on a Friday night sounds heaven.

I couldn't agree more oldspice!

'Green Wing' certainly is quite an out-there comedy, very off-beat. It took me one or two episodes to get into it, now I love it though! And to think, this Friday is the last episode of the series......alas *sigh*.

Get watching!

Thank you Loulou, I did indeed mean size.  And it does matter!

Years and years ago I went out with a boy who invited me home to meet his family and to join the family evening meal. We all sat round chatting over the meal but suddenly a ripple of excitement moved between them and we all cleared up quickly so they could enjoy what they called "the highlight of our week".

They turned on the TV and tuned in to MASH. Within seconds they were all rolling around the floor hysterically. Their dad actually had tears pouring down his cheeks. I sat there astonished.  I was about twenty at the time but my boyfriend's younger brother and sisters were all under 14 and laughing at jokes that I just didn't get. It took some getting used to but within a few weeks I was starting to pick up on the "in jokes" and managed a few smiles.

They were the strangest but most loving and warm family I ever met. So if you are out there Larry - you are still fondly remembered. Are you watching Green Wing??

I've since tried it with a walnut whip! Worked pretty well....what is all that white stuff thought?! It doesn't taste like cream....

Anyone else think a mint-filled walnut whip would be nice? Or am I just a mint freak....?

Mint and caramel whips both exist already! Or at least they did; if Terry's have stopped them, M & S also do a very nice version.

I think caramel filling would be too sickly. I've had those M&S whips and they are ok.

I think I'll venture into M&S for a chocolate binge more often. I tried their 'Ecuador' milk chocolate recently and was most impressed. Avoid the 'healthy' chocolate mousse though, it's pretty foul.

I've got it! Chocolate truffle! Walnut whip with chocolate truffle filling. Now that I'd like....

I heard about the chocolate orange cake by a friend, I put the chocolate orange in with the cake mix and left it all in for the same time and it came out fine...
