Gold Mine - Cadbury's milk chocolate with little Crunchie-like gold "nuggets" strewn throughout.

Sorry Bounty - saved you the trouble as I was trying to remember what these were myself.  I do remember them now.

Cadbury's Wafer, IMO, is nothing at all like Time Out. Cadbury's Wafer is similar to the old Bar Six. The wafer has a lovely thick, creamy filling and the chocolate is thick too. Time Out has a bit of Flake running through it but the wafer bit is feeble.

Well done 623058 for continuing to post on a forum despite your difficulties and well done too for raising awareness of dyslexia by providing a dyslexia link. Robbie, it might help you to know that dyslexia, although causing difficulties with writing and spelling, in no way affects a person'e intelligence. In fact most dyslexics are highly intelligent and gifted - Bill Gates and Albert Einstein among them.

Hhahahhahaha yeah tiz me....just ambling along the path of life and thought I'd post about Texans...funny thing...I remember all that time ago banging on about them...and I could not believe when I saw them at my local petrol station....38p each...but too soft and chewy...It said something like 'old favourites' or something...I wonder if Cabanas will be next on the list! :)

I bet that a lot of people who try the new Texans, not having had them in their original state, would think they were a caramel bar. A brave attempt by Nestle but badly let down by terrible distribution. Still no Texans in Peterborough.
Title: everything We have lost !
Post by: kevvosa on October 10, 2005, 02:29:38 pm
I thought it was a cross between caramel and hard toffee.
Title: everything We have lost !
Post by: oldspice on October 10, 2005, 06:17:57 pm
No. It's supposed to be nougat. In the old days, if you chilled the bar, it would either shatter when you tried to eat it or if slightly softer, would pull away from your teeth in long stringly bits. the chocolate would fall off the sides too.

Hi,

Does anyone know what this was called.. It was a chocolate bar with different shapes of fruits spaced on the top. The shapes were filled with fruit flavours. Possibly made by Cadbury in the 70's.

The advert was hillarious, especially the bit with Ted Rogers when he goes to do his 3, 2, 1 hand gesture but gets confused!

Anyone remember Montego Bars? Looked like a club/trio biscuit but predominant flavour was Ginger. Also Cadburys made a 5/6 piece bar called Ticket - similar shape to Yorkies, thick milk choc, peanuts, raisins and bits of biscuits in a brown wrapper. More expensive than your Mars at the time, remember them being 21p!!

I am new to this here but wonders  if anyone remembers the different chocolatesweets you got in woolies in their pic n mix there were coffee  orange coconut strawberry that i remember and on the wrapper they had a lady  with a big fancy hat on also remember strawberry aeros and a packet that was like munchies/mintola but were turkish delight inside
Title: everything We have lost !

I definitely remember those turkish delight thingies - my gran used to get me them

Post by: oldspice on October 01, 2006, 04:04:07 pm

I remember those too. And the thingies in Woolies sound familiar. definitely remember Strawberry Aero and Lime Aero - but of course that was in the days when Rowntrees made them and they were delicious. They are evil-tasting nowadays.

Monego biscuits were fantastic - especially the ginger ones.

Hi this is my first posting so I hope I dont screw up!Smile

Anyway, I miss the dark chocolate version of Bar Six which was called Bar Noir. I also remember Pink Panther bars which were a sickly pink candy thing that cost 2p. Can you still get Curly Wurlys?

Im not sure if you're counting limited editions but I have scanned some wrappers to post on my website in the near future, Cool Mint Drifters, Apple Pie & Custard Drifters and a Christmas Pudding flavour Toffee Crisp called Toffeecrispmas! There was also the Dark Chocolate Mint Caramel which was really nice.

Anyone remember Arrow Bars, Everlasting Toffee bars and the Texanesque Big One ('sticks out a mile' as the advert went).

The one I miss most of all has already been mentioned - Cabana - I was sure they had made a Cabana ice cream bar, but I could have dreamed it!

Long thread, but I don't think these have been mentioned yet...

Walnut Whip

Take Two (Mint, Coffee, Orange, Marzipan and Vanilla)

Frys Chocolate Cream (Five Centres is already listed but the CC was nearly as nice).  And was there was a mint one too?

Caramac - the real stuff, not the vile coating that masquerades as Caramac on those horrid kit-kats.

Just thought of a few more: Treets (Peanut, Toffee), Swisskit ("I'd risk it for a Swisskit"), Trio (great banana boat song advert), Triffick bars (advertised by Mike Read) and Grand Seville, which was a bit like Old Jamaica from what I remember.

Hi, anyone else old enough to remember Nux barrs? they were really nutty & chewy & absolutely delicious, or maybe it's just so long since I tasted one that my memory is playing tricks! If you have noticed my quest for Guyliain hazelnut bars, you will realise I'm nuts about nutty choc. Anyone spotting anything new in the nutty department ,please let me know. Thanks.

Hi Yazal! I think Nux bars go back even further than I do! There used to be a chocolate centre in Dairy Box called Nux but it was chewy wafer with no nuts. I wonder if your Nux bar was made by Rowntrees and based on that chocolate?

You will have a friend in Loulou as she is a nutty chocolate fan.

Technically, words that end in 'y' and have a consonant before the why are made plural by dropping the 'y' and adding ies so Bounty singular becomes Bounties plural. However, brand names are a bit of an acception.

A similar corruption of spelling rules is where the noun cabby is most often spelt cabbie as if it was plural.

How sad am I?

Wow!

I loved the Toffee Treets. Of course, the original Chocolate Treets are still with us (Minstrels).

It seems strange to think that something as beautiful and revolutionary as Concord is now old hat and no longer with us.

The kids I work with laugh when they see old-style PCs and yet I can remember seeing a real old computer (reel-to-reel and big enough to fill a whole room) on  a school visit to our local Town Hall! They even fell about laughing when I gave them an example of how a database could be used at home "to categorise your record collection". I could have bitten my tongue off!

I live in the UK.

My brother brought me some cherry cordial chocolates back from the States a little while ago and they were really nice. Didn't taste like vomit at all, I am sure I would have noticed that.

But they are the only Hershey's chocolates I have tasted so maybe the rest are awful. What a shame.

In that case I apologise for trying to force vomit flavoured choccies on everyone, but I honestly didn't know.

Savanna!

I've been searching for this - it's how I found this forum.

They were pyramid shaped (smaller than pyramint and available about the same time - 80s?).  The filling was fruit - apricot I think. Not too sweet. They were excellent but didn't stay around long. Not many people seem to remember them so I guess they weren't that popular. Sigh..

They sound wonderful!

I LOVE your name - evosticky - it's fantstic and takes me right back to far off days when I used to help my lovely dad with little jobs around the house.

I was trying to think of the name of that other glue! Thanks GC!

I can still see dad - flat pencil behind one ear - measuring everything in sight for a coating of Formica - applied with a coating of Evostick from a can!

I applaud the exhaustive list, and bemoan their loss regularly, particularly Mint Cracknell and Cabana.

I live in Ireland, and we still have Tiffin here, i also go to USA, and can get BIG BAGS of Jolly Ranchers, cos i loved them.

AM willing to post stuff if anyone loved these particular ones.

Oh, and by the way Hi, I'm new :)

Hi Wend - and welcome.

I miss Mint Carcknell greatly too - and there are a few Cabana fans on the site. However - I can't help wondering if I might find these bars a bit too sickly these days. It's nice to look back and remember though.

For anyone who misses Banjo chocolate bar from the 80's there is a Petition Page on Facebook - called Bring Back Banjo chocolate bar  :)

Update there is now a Petition link on - Bring Back Banjo chocolate bar FB Page (you don't have to be on FB to sign it) just need someone to send you the link. Remember Wispa came back after a FB Petition, so can Banjo!

Can't get that Banjo advert jingle out of my head - Banjo, Banjo, Banjo is brand new, light and crispy wafer and roast nut flavour too!   :D
