What happened to Suchard's chocolate?  Does it still exist?  I used to really like it.

Don't Suchard make Toblerone? Talking of Toblerone, I seem to remember that when I was small, Toblerone was a very expensive bar conpared with others (I think it was about 10d in old money, which is about 9p in today's money). That meant I never, or rarely, got to taste it and when I finally did I was a bit disappointed and thought "is that it?". It seemed a bit of a let down for the price. Goldencup?

Silly me, yes they do make Toblerone.  But they used to make lots of delicious chocolate bars too, similar to Swiss Delice, and also the 'bouchees' which were like the green triangles in Quality Street.  (Yes I know you don't like praline Oldspice but I do!).  You're quite right, Toblerones were horrendously expensive compared to other bars and I remember being similarly disappointed when a family visitor brought me one. 10d was only about 4p though wasn't it?  12d (a shilling) was 5p.

Having looked on the internet, I found this:

You are right Goldencup! 10d was about 4p in today's money. It becomes more and more difficult to convert back as the years roll by! Can you imagine kids today not being able to afford something that costs 4p? It just goes to show how much our disposable incomes have grown compared with then. It seems to indicate that these goods are cheap today in comparison. Having said that, things seemed to be more enjoyable because they were rare.

Carry on eating your praline, i am in the monority in not liking it!

I think they must be. It's the old 'Mars Bar index' system isn't it.  I used to spend practically all my pocket money on sweets.  If my kids did that today (they get five pounds) they'd get a lot more for their money than I did.  Mind you I would not be too happy about it if they did do that!
