Somethings changed in the coating as they're now 'Real chocolate coating' instead of 'chocolate flavoured coating'

Nestle apparently not going to move (good ole Nestle I knew we could
count on 'em) and 'what other companies did was up to them'



Also sez about unhealthy foods being advertise to children etc. is the
chocolate industry guilty of this? I thought choc was now being aimed
more at adults anyway.

They mean only the ones branded as "King Size". Although it's an
important point, perhaps people who need a bigger 'fix' will buy
100-200g products instead of 60g king size ones!



It's all to do with portions apparently, if you give someone a food
portion that is unhealthily large they will probably eat it anyway (and
larger portions are considered better 'value'). I can see where they
are coming from but it does seem to be a little bit too much too soon.

I haven't heard anything about what Nestle intends to do perhaps they are waiting for peoples reaction to masterfoods+cadbury.

FAQ / About forum rankings

You'll notice you have two forum rank meters underneath your username when you post items to the forum.

The first (made of chocolate blocks) indicates the percentage of
products within the review that you have voted for (you have to keep
voting for new products to maintain your chocolate mad status).

The second (made of stars) indicates how many postings you've made to
the forum or if you are a moderator of the forum (up to 3 stars for
more postings, 4 stars for a moderator). Moderators of the forum are
selected by chocadmin at my discression <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0">

UPDATE: Ok the new forum only shows your number of postings rank, your chocolate rank is displayed in the top-right of review web pages other than the forum at the moment.

I notice the new products from Lindt are the same, paper outer with plastic wrapper inside.

Guess they've found it's the best way to keep 'em fresh.

FAQ / Where did the old forum go?

The old forum system was getting rather full and was a bit clunky. It you want to view postings in the old system click here.

Note you can't put new postings in the old forum any more.

If you spot something in the old system that you'd like copied into the
new forum either copy and paste it yourself or send us an e-mail with
the details of the posting you'd like copied.

The system allows for piccies representing people (called avatars), but
I've turned it off for the time being (not sure what system will be
available when I switch servers).

The best thing about this forum is that it separates out the postings a
bit, rather than having hundreds of postings (and thousands of
replies?) all mixed in together.

Hmmm, I'm not getting pop-ups when using the forum. The site is going to a commercial provider soon - but not just yet (this forum is actually a test of a system for sites I operate in my normal 'work').


Let me know if you get any pop-ups or any other weirdness when using the forum (that is other than that of the forum posters themselves )

FAQ / Bar of mousse and drizzled chocolate?

Called Secret a bar often referred to using Shredded wheat to describe what it looked like. First made by Rowntree (now owned by Nestle) in the late 80s (confirmation needed).
From post of user 'WillieWonka':
Production of Secret bars stopped about 1996. Complicated process to make them -chocolate "shredded wheat" bar with a fondant centre. Plant was scrapped / sold off when production stopped (not a big seller) so no chance of them coming back. Too sweet and sickly for me anyway. A bit like a giant Walnut Whip with no walnut, lots of fondant centre and not much chocolate. Having said that I love Walnut Whips.

There is always discussion about which product had the slogan 'Melts in your mouth not in your hand'.

The general consensus is that this is either M&M's or Minstrels
(depending on which side of the atlantic you're from).

Given that at the time Mars had a near monopoly on bagged, round
chocolate sweets (owning minstrels, m&m's, and maltesers) it could
have been applied to more than one product at one time or another.
